Process & Timelines
Step Details
1. Gap analysis Compare current practice with the standard's requirements
2. Documentation & implementation Build and run the management system
3. Certification audit Stage 1 (readiness) + Stage 2 (main audit) by a certification body
4. Certificate Issued on closing audit findings — typically valid 3 years
5. Surveillance audits Annual; recertification at the end of 3 years
Important: ISO certification is not a government registration. It is issued by an independent certification body — for credibility, insist on one accredited under NABCB / IAF. Be wary of very cheap, instant 'ISO certificates' that have no real audit behind them.
