PAN–Aadhaar linking Mandatory — an unlinked PAN becomes inoperative
Note: PAN is needed for filing ITR, opening a bank/demat account, high-value transactions, property and vehicle purchases, and TDS credit. One person can hold only one PAN.

What Goes Wrong Without (or With Wrong) PAN
Higher TDS
No PAN means TDS is deducted at the higher rate (often 20%).
Inoperative PAN
If PAN is not linked with Aadhaar, it stops working — refunds and filings get blocked.
Penalty for two PANs
Holding more than one PAN attracts a penalty of ₹10,000 (Sec 272B).
Transactions blocked
Banks and registrars refuse high-value transactions without a valid PAN.
